Creating a Login Name
When you first use the AFS Sending Bulletin Board, you will need to choose a username and receive a password. Go to www.afsdiscussion.org and you will be prompted to log in. Where it says, "If you are a new user, please click here to create login user name," click on the "here" to register.

Fill in your registration information and click the Submit Request button when you are done.

After registering, you get the following screen. Within a few minutes you should get an email with your login name and password.

Here is what the email looks like. Note that the passwords are case sensitive.

Now you can go back to the login page and enter your user name and password.

Here is the default view of the bulletin board. Discussion topics are listed in order by date, with the most recent at the top. Responses to each topic appear below the topic. If a posting has been edited, it is marked as edited in the view.

Across the top are links (Discussion Home, All by Date, By Author, etc.) to different views of the bulletin board and for some important actions such as changing your password and logging out of the bulletin board.

Composing a New Topic
Clicking on the Compose New Topic link takes you to this form.

After you fill out the subject and body of the posting, click the Submit this Topic button.

Here is what a posting looks like after it has been posted. Note that there is now an Edit This Posting menu option and a Respond to This Posting option. Also note that the thread of the topic is reproduced on the bottom of the posting, so you can easily move from topic to response.

To post a response to a main topic (or to another response), click on the "Respond to This Posting" link.

Clicking on the Respond to This Posting link opens up a response form.

After submitting the response, it appears in the main view like this:

And here is the response when being read. Notice that the "Thread" section shows the main topic and any responses.

Postings may be edited by the moderators of the bulletin board and by the original author. Here is a posting that has been re-opened by the original author. The author has clicked the 'Edit this Posting' link. After editing the document, press Submit this Topic, to save the changes.

After a posting has been edited, it appears marked as such in the the views. A copy of the original posting appears also, but only to the editor and to the moderators. A regular user would not see other people's previous versions. Here is how the view would appear to the original author.

And here is the view seen by a different user. Notice that he does not see the previous version of the posting, but can see that the original has been edited.
